When SCO and Chrysler wanted a team that would design and implement a plan for a major upgrade of Chrysler’s MDS2 application, the application that runs in their dealerships worldwide, they sought out SoftDomain to assist them to implement the first vital phase in a record 8-week period.

To enable the Chrysler Corporation to develop its MDS2 project on UnixWare servers, a team of SoftDomain engineers ported all the required Netscape products to UnixWare. This effort included porting the Netscape Enterprise Server, Netscape Fasttrack Server, Web Administration server, Proxy servers, Site Manager and Netscape Navigator and the LiveWire products to UnixWare 2.x in a record 6-week period.

SoftDomain engineers went on to play a key role in DaimlerChrysler’s MDS2 project with innovative solutions and close work with the Netscape core engineering team. We ported Netscape Enterprise, Fasttrack, Proxy servers and the Netscape browser to UnixWare 2.x. We designed and implemented a completely automated installation and configuration of the operating system, databases, and other 3rd party software. We developed custom boot floppies and a custom CD that is used to autoinstall the complete environment. We worked out tough integration issues on all the major software pieces into the product, which includes Sybase, Netscape, and Java-related problems. The final product is currently installed in more than five thousand DaimlerChrysler dealerships around the world. When DaimlerChrysler decided to upgrade to UnixWare 7.x in February 2000, SoftDomain was contacted again to help with the transition to UnixWare 7.x, which involves the integration of new hardware from IBM, the latest operating system from SCO and many 3rd party software.
