When Dow Jones & Company wanted a solution to view data, Soft Domain developed a solution for Dow Jones to access data from a legacy system and generate reports in HTML format through a Web browser. We designed a powerful and flexible solution to generate and access reports from legacy databases, and any other database systems they used.

The Report Server is the most efficient enterprise web reporting solution creating presentation-quality reports from any database of choice, carrying out flexible analysis and formatting capabilities and performing advanced interactive reporting over the Web. It gives business users the power and flexibility to schedule the generation of reports at any time of the day. softReportServer automatically generates reports without any further interaction. This feature also gives huge performance benefits when a server is under heavy load, scheduling reports to maximize down times on an overloaded server. We added an administrative component as well, to allow for the visual definition of reports.

We are currently working with Dow Jones strategizing and implementing a distributed news delivery system harnessing the power of the SUN/Solaris platform across multiple servers. This project is a re-engineering effort to replace a monolithic legacy system based on the Tandem platform. Dow Jones has some very strict performance requirements in this project and they depend on our expertise in all levels of software development, from systems to networks to applications to installation, to ensure that we meet this requirement.

We have also helped Dow Jones in re-deploying the serial communications modules in their newsroom support system to the Linux platform. This included porting system software from UnixWare 2.X to Linux 2.0.28, adapting the installation and configuration software to the Linux model, and configuring and deploying the boxes themselves. Again, Dow Jones counted on our expertise with all aspects of software across multiple UNIX to help them in this effort. Another Dow Jones project on which we worked is client workstations for their financial market tracking system. This included porting from Microsoft Windows 3.1 to NT 4.0, adding new features, including Y2K compatibility, improving the performance, and troubleshooting. This is yet another example of our expertise in systems software across multiple platforms, in this case, Microsoft Windows 3.1/NT and Visual C++/MFC.
